Born and Raised in Alaska, dad was in the oil exploration business as a geologist and surveyor.
I always loved woodworking, but we moved around, so I didn't really start getting a shop set-up until I was transferred to Salina Kansas.

I got to work on projects in the evenings at the local tech school, which was slow going because it was only 1 night per week. My wife decided I really needed to be set up in our garage (:-P) , so she got advice from her dad who was the high school shop teacher back in Alaska on what to buy, and voila a truckload of tools arrived.

I also have been traveling each year to Marc Adams' school in Indiana to build on my skills, sort of my annual pilgrimage to wood mecca.

Right now woodworking is a hobby, I've had several commissions over the years, and we did the Christmas Craft shows a few times, but cannot afford to go pro, especially since I am living far from a sizable market. Traveling is OK, but hard to get commissions long distance.

Hey a fellow Kansan! Your projects are beautiful. I’m new to LJs and am looking forward to learning from the pros. It’s great that your wife takes such an interest in your work – What a joy to have all the new tools! I have several but need practice and instruction on some.
