I always loved wooden bowls and vases and I finally got enough space to set up a small woodshop. (one bay in my garage) I had no clue how to go about making them, so I started watching a lot of videos on Youtube. I bought all the stuff I needed and started learning. I ordered a Jet 1442 lathe, and when it arrived, it was the first wood lathe I had ever seen. I never took woodshop in school and we don't have anyplace locally that teaches courses. I was amazed at the amount of stuff on Youtube, everytime I had a question, there seemed to be a video that helped me out. Learning how to actually use the turning tools was interesting though. Luckily there were no trips to the ER. I've been at it a couple years now and have put out just over 200pieces. I'm still learning a lot with each piece.

-- No matter how many mistakes you make or how slow your progress, you're still way ahead of everyone who isn't trying.
