My great grandfather was very similar to "The Woodwright's" show on PBS. All hand tools, very few appliances. He passed on before he could bring me into the fold *sadness*. I remember the smell of wood when walking into the basement, the low level lighting (single bulb), wooden hand planes, chisels, carving handles, screwdriver handles, cazillion of baby food bottles and coffee cans with nuts & bolts.
Last year after purchasing my first house with attached 22'x22' 2 car garage, i've been accumulating wood working tools (mostly power tools). Some at retail, most from Craigslist and estate auctions. I feel "at home" around wood even though i have little to no experience (cant do much in apartments or condo's).
