I call myself "Newbie Dan" on my YouTube channel, "The Newbie Woodworker". In some respects, I'm not really a newbie. In certain areas, though, I definitely am. But I learn quickly, and for some reason, I seem to be able to explain things well to others. Hence, my YouTube channel.

I'm a retired software engineer (i.e. "programmer"). It's amazing how similar being a software engineer and a woodworker are. I guess when you come down to it, engineering is engineering, regardless of whether you work with software or hardwood. :)

Welcome to LJ, Dan. If you like woodworking, you are going to love it here.

Seeing your name made me smile…...
My middle school and high school shop teacher, who first taught me wood working and later became a mentor and friend, was named Dan Thomas. He was taken from us far too soon, but his willingness to teach others has left a wonderful legacy.
My wife still has the hope chest I built for her under the watchful eye of Mr Thomas 38 years ago.

Best wishes.

-- Rick - I know I am not perfect, but I will keep pressing on toward the goal of becoming all I am called to be.

Welcome to LJ’s. Very creative and ingenious group. Some days you just shake your head and wonder how did they do it!

Watched a few of your videos, novel idea and I wish you the best in your endeavor. Everyone is a expert so expect alot of flack for every perceived mistake or wrong. Oddly many of these experts do NOT make videos so just take ti with a grain of salt.

As you mentioned in your video I am one of those people that produce something, show it as a project and give no how to advice. Teaching is not my forte. Video’s are not my forte. Heck woodworking is not really my forte.

LOL

Thanks for the welcome!

You know, I expected a lot of criticism and trolling when I started my channel. But I’ve gotten almost none. It’s really strange. Not that I’m complaining.

Occasionally I receive what might be a nasty comment, but I always try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, and so far at least I’ve responded cautiously. In almost every instance, I either never hear from the person again, or end up having a great discussion with them.

I know the time will come when trolls and haters will rear their ugly heads. But for now, I’m enjoying the calm before the storm.

“Heck woodworking is not really my forte.” LOL. Your projects suggest differently. :)
