Both my grandfather and my father were craftsmen which led to me being exposed to tools and impressed by craftsmanship of the people around me from the earliest age. That surrounding definitely triggered and enhanced my need to create. My older sister who is a sculptor and is creating pure art has had, through her work and education, a big influence on my sense of aesthetics. Creativity is, as I see it, God’s gift that pushes a man to interact with the world around him, to constantly explore and question everything around him in an endless search for better solutions. In my case that creativity was expressed in many forms but eventually it narrowed down to woodworking. By education I am a traffic engineer and my line of work doesn’t involve manual labor, which led to an even bigger need for me to express my creativity. Gradually, with help and support from my family I was able to acquire all the necessary tools and to adapt my garage into a workshop. How I had all that I needed to make my dream come true and to be able to dedicate most of my free time to woodworking.
Wood as a material is very primeval, alive and a great source of inspiration both when it’s used by itself and when it’s combined with a different material. Sound of a hand tool peeling the layers of the wood and exposing to the craftsmen never before seen structures and shapes represents immeasurable pleasure. I am first and foremost drawn to create useable wooden items because that gives the owner of the piece a chance to be in direct contact with the material, to enjoy the wood’s unique warmth and structure. That is why I try to make sure that all the pieces I produce are not coated using synthetic coatings, but rather using oil and wax, emphasizing wood natural structure and fineness. Despite modern materials being more and more present in our everyday life, wood thanks to its warmth and positive effect on man, still holds a special place in our lives and I hope it will stay that way.
So far I made a variety of items: Tables, book shelves, club tables, wine tables, dressers, wine shelves, decorative boxes, archery bows etc. Items that I make are either one of a kind or made in a small series.
