« Part 1: Legs Part 2 of From cut-offs to.... series Part 3: top is done, tenons as well »

Coughing jag last night, pulled a few things under the right shoulder blade…..might be a little limited today…

Kept the size of the planes small…nothing bigger than a jack plane…

Leg blanks were a mixed lot….needed planed to remove the saw marks, and try to get them all the same size…around 1” square. Beltsanding center to smooth the curved sections….finally got all four to match each other..

Not perfect, but they will do….even marked the ends, as to where the tenons will be going…

Set these aside. The apron blanks were a bit rough and wavy….

Edges needed jointed until all four aprons were the same width…..thicknesses was another matter..

The two short ones….used the jack and a #3 smooth plane, pushing against the benchdog….one of the long aprons had “issues”..

Jack didn’t seem to care, though. Finally got all four the same width, and thickness..

And set these all aside…was getting a bit deep in shavings, decided to at least try to clean things up…

Had to move the trashcan to this spot..took a bunch of dustpan loads, to clear this pile away..
Legs are ready, aprons are close….time to work on a top…

What you see, is what we got. Picked which face was the worst (besides mine…) and laid out to bevel the bottom.

One line along the edge, is 3/4” from either face….to leave a 3/4” edge to the top…the bevel goes back 1-1/4” from the edge, so a second line was drawn there….Then a couple clamps and the benchdog, to keep things from sliding away…Jack plane to start, #4 to finish up…

One done, three to go. Back was acting up, and I was getting tired…after two hours of this…cutting a beveled edge leaves another pile on the floor..

This was just from one bevel…imagine what four bevels would do. Cleaned this mess up, and went upstairs, and closed the shop for the day. maybe tomorrow, the back will feel better, and the three bevels can get done.

Once all four are done, I can size the aprons for length, cut some tenons, and chop a few mortises. At least then, I can sit down at the bench for that.
Stay tuned…
