Another box build #4: One of THEM days....

11-15-2018 07:37 AM by bandit571 | 6 comments »

Didn’t start out too bad, though…...but the longer I stayed in the shop, the worst things got….and the high the cussing levels went…..enough to make even a CPO blush….. Ok…first up, time to remove this, from the clamps I think it has been sitting long enough….spread more glue around, “recycle” the clamps… And set it aside….where it won’t fall over….cleaned the first glue up and checked for square….one...

Another box build #3: Mortise, tenons, and glue...oh my

11-14-2018 01:46 AM by bandit571 | 0 comments »

Headed to the shop about 2 pm…..emerged from the shop just after 5pm….with cramps starting in the legs…Ok..gave the “new” tablesaw fence a test drive…it was rock solid, never budged a bit…had to cobble up a push stick, as the parts would be a bit narrow.. Ripped the worse sections of these off….then made the grooves…since these were all the same size…jig wasn’t the greatest….couple parts had issues staying in the jig&#...

10-31-2018 01:12 AM by WoodshopTherapy | 0 comments »

I’m in the process of building my woodworking tool cabinet and I had to cut a stopped miter joint. I’d never done this before and never heard of it before. It was a unique situation and thought I would share the experience on video. https://youtu.be/oXllBvNLIoE What are your thoughts? Scott

Ok, Sunday….nasty, dreary, rainy outside the windows…..even a Hail Storm came through….seems when we get a lot of rain…the Dungeon gets a small creek running across the floor to the floor drain….. Life in a basement….of course, the creek HAS to go through, right where I’m working…. And each rain shower, a new wave would come downstream. Ok…had a door to repair.. I had went ahead and drilled corner for a deep counter bored hole&#...

Next Kitchen Project #10: Cut list, and a start on the doors

10-27-2018 04:07 AM by bandit571 | 2 comments »

Puzzle was how to cut what Oak I have left, into all the parts I needed to make…. This was the easy part. I need a top shelf for the unit above the microwave oven…Shelf needs to be 9” wide, and match the top of the base. Length I can cut to…width? Should be enough, and enough left over for a stile for one of the door frames… I have these three, at 3/4” thick, by 6-1/2” wide….Topper needs two sides at 8” wide….by 23̶...

Well…made the mistake of telling the Boss that I could bring the base cabinet upstairs….but,,that Ugly thing had to be empty, and out of the Kitchen..first…..was almost like a bomb had gone off! First off,,,there WAS a zip-tie holding the doors shut…for the simple reason that was the only way they would STAY shut…picture above is after two trash bags were filled…and a tub for the firepit.. Was filled enough to start a second one….tried to help&#...

Next Kitchen Project #7: Face frame installed..plugs done

10-24-2018 02:40 AM by bandit571 | 2 comments »

two trips to the shop, today… one to drill and install the parts for the face frame. One drill for the counter-bored hole, then another to do a pilot hole, so a third drill could drive the screws….clamps to pull thing together..to where they needed to be…bead of glue on the back of each part….19 holes to plug,,, I kept the cutout from the bottom rail….figured it could provide enough plugs.. Didn’t burn a one! Drill press was still in “Lo...

Needed to mill some rebates, get the second frame done….and buy some screws..Second frame, the one the drawer will be sliding on… Was glued up, spent most of the day waiting on the glue to cure…rebates? Set up the Stanley 45. Once I figured out which were the backs of the two side panels, I could mark where to put the rebate,,clamp each side panel to the side of the bench.. Mr. Stanley does NOT like knots, had to chisel a couple out of the way… Decided t...

Next Kitchen Project #4: LONG day in the shop

10-21-2018 05:20 AM by bandit571 | 1 comment »

But, got a few things done. Had a Barn Sale to go check out….not so much for the old tools, but maybe get enough old Pine to help the build along…..1×10 x 8’ and a pair of 1×3 x 8’ pine boards…$15…. So..first task for today..after lunch, was to plop the sides onto the bench….and do a trim.. Almost just a slab….edge back by the tool well, was close enough of a match, that just a jointer plane would be needed….the edges cl...
