I really like this table saw, but it is not set up for a zero clearance insert. The recess for an insert is only 3/16 inch deep, and the levelling screws for the factory insert also interfere with a ZCI. My first attempt shown in an earlier project was pretty crude, and the 3/16” oak insert was just not stiff enough to work well.
The insert here is made from banana wood and is 3/8” thick. A rabbeting bit was used on the router to relieve the edge depth to 3/16 inch. The levelling screws were removed and inserted upside down (temporarily) to accurately mark the location for drilling clearance holes and removing material around them. When the ZCI was fit tested, the levelling screws for the factory insert were reinstalled with thread lock. Now the inserts are easily interchanged to accommodate the work being done.
A final note of caution: The 10 inch saw blade interfered with the 3/8” insert, so the initial cut was made using a
7 1/4” saw blade. This insert has been used for several months now on several projects and there have been no mishaps. Though I can’t vouch for the safety of this ZCI, I will say I’ve had a number of jams and jumps with small pieces getting caught in the factory insert. The other remedy for this is use of a cross cut sled.

Nice work. Replaced mine some time ago as well much happier with the results. Someone suggested awhile back trying wooden flooring. Have not needed anymore but when I do may give it a try.

Your Grizzly SAW looks a lot like Ridgid Table saw. I wonder if they are made in the same factory. I have the same thing! I have made a couple of inserts for this saw myself. I have to say I have no idea WHY Ridgid made their insert so bizarre hard to reproduce????

I have bought many tools from Grizzly and cant say I like them. They are hit or miss. One tolls may be made and engineered very well then the next model number may be a POS!

Grizzly finally offers a ZCI for their G0771 table saw. It’s on page 439 of their new catalog. The part# is T28171 and it sells for $29.95. It’s currently backordered until April, 2018. I have seen posts that say the Leecraft insert for the Rigid saw will fit the Grizzly as well.

I may order one just to see if I like it better than the one I turned out. But, I may wait until mine flies off the table. There are no pictures in the catalogue or the web site, but they appear to be backordered anyway.

Have your say...
