This was a simple project except for getting that reversing grain to smooth out. The planes left it rough, then the scraper cards got it smooth but not flat, so finally I put sandpaper down on mdf, and that did the trick. It is finished with sesame seed oil. Dimensions: 15×6.5”

Very pretty. If it gets used it will NOT stay very smooth anyway.

I have that problem a lot with Sapale, the raised grain coming off the planer. And I’ve got a spiralhead!
You can just basically sand it down until it quiets down.
