Teknatool Customer Service - Exceptionally Terrible!

Teknatool Customer Service - Exceptionally Terrible!

12-19-2018 03:08 AM by crb | 0 comments »

I am writing this to help others reconsider buying a large tool from Teknatool due to their poor support and also to vent. I purchased the Teknatool Voyager drill press in September due to the $200 mail in rebate. The press arrived about a week later and I got it out of the box and assembled. After running it once I immediately filled out the MIR form online for the $200 rebate and provided the invoice. Unknown to me (my fault) the invoice had the invoice date (October 1) and not the orde...

Medium sized lathe, with all the best stuff

Medium sized lathe, with all the best stuff

12-18-2018 01:57 PM by Avi | 0 comments »

I have been working with the Scout for about 4 months now. I only got into turning about 16 months ago, but once I realized I will probably be turning until I am dead, I decided to skip the usual upgrade path and just go straight to the top, instead of waiting for my retirement and/or greater ability to afford it. My shop is tiny (and in the basement) so I am unable to fit in a permanently standing lathe, so it needs to be on wheels. Thus the lathe plus cabinet/stand cannot weigh more tha...

Ridgid 13" planer. Disappointed

Ridgid 13" planer. Disappointed

12-09-2018 05:57 AM by Mark | 17 comments »

I’m not going to lie, at first i was very impressd with this planer. But I have come across a serious problem for the second time now with the same one. Not sure if it was just a lemon but its a real disappointment and frustration when you run a nice piece through and on one edge its lets say 3/4” and its tapered down to almost 5/8” on the other. The blade over time keeps slipping on a slight angle when it should be even all the way through. Adjusting it shouldnt be an opti...

Eagle America's customer service surprised me... in a bad way.

Well, I had been eyeing some spiral carbide sets to upgrade my router bits. Had been shopping between Infinity and Eagle America. They both had similar holiday sales though executed slightly different. I settled on Eagle America because I do believe that they put together their sets more thoughtfully and ultimately better price value. However when I went to create my basket and use the promo code I ran into an issue. The 5 piece carbide set did not take the promo. I tried all the other set...

Titebond ll Extended Wood Glue

I just used this product on a glue up and it offers no “Slower speed of set”. Its speed of set is no slower than any other Titebond product. If you get 5 minutes your will be lucky.

I never thought to check for square

I never thought to check for square

What appealed about this product was both the tilting head and the fact the table slides, at the price point of around $500 CDN. I bought it shortly before we moved 3 years ago so never had much of a chance to use it. One of the hold downs broke during that limited period of usage, and that was replaced without a problem. In the interim i used biscuits and other joinery for the rest of the project. A couple years later I was still unpacking and organizing my shop, and I unpacked it for a ...

An okay saw.

An okay saw.

11-27-2018 07:47 PM by bgilb | 9 comments »

For the money, the saw is okay at best. I used to have a Rigid R4511 (the crazy granite top one) and honestly some things about that one were better than this saw. Things I like: Solid construction and very heavy and well built. It runs really well so no issues there. Good dust collection. The blade guard is good. Things that I don’t like: #1) The fence (at least the one I got) is garbage. Everyone said it was upgraded compared to the previous model. The fence is not flat, it&#...

More than I was looking for

More than I was looking for

THIS ROUTER IS BARELY A MONTH OLD AND THE MOTOR QUIT WORKING. GRIZZLY IS SENDING A RETURN MAILER FOR A REFUND. IT WORKED WELL OUT OF THE BOX, AND SEEMED LIKE A GOOD DEAL. GUESS I’LL BE LOOKING FOR ANOTHER ROUTER SOON. ANY SUGGESTIONS? I almost always use the router table, but wanted a plunge router for a project I was working on. There are a lot of trim routers on the market now with plunge capability and 6 amp motors. The T27139 was the least expensive of the routers I looked at...

When Reading the Manual Doesn't Help

When Reading the Manual Doesn't Help

i decided it was time to try my hand at making dovetail joints, so I purchased the Craftex CT052N 12” Dovetail Jig. I had some 5/8ths boards so I thought a 1/2” dovetail jig would be appropriate. I have a Bosch router, a 1/2” 14 degree dovetail bit and a template that could be made to work with this jig. There are several measurements and adjustments that need to be made before starting to cut the dovetails. I carefully followed the instructions in the manual that came wi...
