Generic Batteries for Dewalt DCD771 Cordless drill

Generic Batteries for Dewalt DCD771 Cordless drill

04-18-2018 02:43 PM by Blackie_ | 8 comments »

I found a set of Generic batteries that fit the Dewalt DCD771 cordless drill on Amazon. I purchased a couple of them and thus far that are worth their weight in gold. These batteries are larger (4.0ah) than the stock batteries (1.3ah) that come with the kit and work in the same charger that came with the drill kit. They are a bit larger in that they are taller and a tad bit heavier. Masione 20V 4.0Ah Max Lithium Ion Replacement Battery for Dewalt Hammer Drill DCB204 DCB207

Plans for The Morley Mortiser

Plans for The Morley Mortiser

04-14-2018 03:34 PM by Rich | 2 comments »

I’ve been looking around for ideas for a mortising jig for the router. Most of what I’ve found up to this point is pretty makeshift, either using the edge guide for the router with some stops, or requiring different jigs for each size. I first came across Philip Morley’s web site when I was researching Krenov-style saw horses. Philip is the product of a London trade school and two apprenticeships under master furniture makers. As a result, his work is impeccable. It&#...

Almost perfect handheld CNC

Almost perfect handheld CNC

You can find more information here. These are still on pre-order/fulfillment. I received mine and have been learning to use it. I do not have space in mu shop for a table/gantry style CNC machine, however I want to be able to do CNC type cuts. The Shaper Origin seems to be a (nearly) perfect solution. I have also included an example of my most recent project. This CNC is not a full 3D unit, at most it is 2.5D. Pros:Small compact unit, stores away in a systainer. When used correctly the ...

Kreg hinge jig ok with one major annoying flaw

Kreg hinge jig ok with one major annoying flaw

So I had a home made jig for installing concealed hinges that i managed to misplace. I happened to be in the Woodcraft and saw the Kreg jig, so i figured I’d give it a try as the price was pretty good. So after installing a dozen doors worth of hinges, I have some hints and one major gripe about the jig. The good:It’s easy to use. The guide keeps the forstner bit perpendicular with out much effort.Consistent placement is easy to achieve. The price is right. The hints:Kee...

Wanted a Workmate 425, but this is what was available locally...

04-05-2018 02:27 PM by Holt | 8 comments »

After loosing some tools and what not in a fire, i was left needing a portable work bench. My plan was to buy another Workmate 425 to replace my lost one, but there were none to be had locally. While looking for something similar i found these Kreg units at Lowe’s. The price was a little higher than the Workmate and they had no integrated vise, but they do support various Kreg clamping systems (the package includes one Kreg Bench Clamp). The system also provides a method of hooking two ...

Pretty pleased with this plane

Pretty pleased with this plane

04-05-2018 10:44 AM by garageking | 4 comments »

My daughters gave me a Woodcraft gift certificate for my birthday. I don’t have a low angle jack plane which I have always wanted. I did the usual research and decided that I probably will go with LN or LV version in the future. I have the Woodriver 4 1/2 which I really like and after reading the reviews here and elsewhere, I decided to go for the Woodriver 5 1/2. I was very pleased with the fit and finish, everything flat and square, etc. The blade is quite hefty and just needed a lit...

Fantastic initial build quality, at any price. Tons of power, quirky controls.

I have some one off mortar drilling I had to do in order to get some picture hangers up on my fireplace. Which meant that my little 3/8 standard corded drills weren’t up to the task, and heaven knows my 18V 3/8 Cordless wouldn’t even consider doing the job, so I shot on over to Harbor Freight, and picked up my long postponed Hammer drill purchase. I have been hearing about the Chicago Electric model from a framing contractor friend that owns one and uses it on the job site. And...

30" Flatmaster Sander In Reverse and Using a 3400 RPM Motor

30" Flatmaster Sander In Reverse and Using a 3400 RPM Motor

04-01-2018 09:47 PM by Kelly | 3 comments »

I was experimenting with a cold when my Flatmaster arrived, so I was slow getting to the game. The unit arrived well packaged and in excellent condition. When I removed the top, I noted a place which had been miss-drilled, but it doesn’t hurt anything or affect the cosmetics. If anything, it serves as a reminder I helped another little guy. I did get the motor mounted and wired with a temporary switch (a household switch) and was able to get the unit going and test drive it a lit...

4" PVC Pipe to 4" Dust Collection Hose

4" PVC Pipe to 4" Dust Collection Hose

04-01-2018 10:11 AM by copythat | 11 comments »

I made my own inexpensive dust collection system using 4” PVC sewer pipe and fittings from Lowe’s. The parts were a fraction of the cost of true dust collection ducting and fittings. The one issue I had was that the diameter of the sewer pipe I used was too narrow to get a nice fit for the flexible drop down dust hose. To solve the problem, I invested in Dust Right transitions and they fit perfectly. Although pricey at $15 each, I thought they were money well spent.

Supermax 1938 Review - 4.5 out of 5 stars in my book.

Supermax 1938 Review - 4.5 out of 5 stars in my book.

I recently bought the Supermax 19/38 drum sander. This is my first drum sander and I have to say that I’m really surprised by how much I like it. The main purpose was for sanding thinner panels for scroll saw work. My wife likes to scroll saw and when she saw a demo on one she wanted one so it was a win win decision. My original concern was it only being 120volt sander. I don’t really have a shop and the one circuit in the garage is already taxed especially if I use my du...
