Topic tags/keywords: question I’ve played the same Alvarez md90 (solid spruce and solid rosewood) for over 10years Sounds great. I love it but I’d lik to upgrade to something better The problem is that even tho mine is a cheap (700 new at the time) China guitar it sounds really good. My next guitar I’d lik to b my “forever” guitar I know there’s some players on this site. What do you guys play? I’ve looked at some Martin and Breedlove I’d lik to check out some Santa Cruz guitars eventually. -- Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with all thy might |

I’ve got a Fender CD-60 and it has been a great guitar for the past 2.5 years iv’e had it. It’s nothing expensive, but it sounds really nice. If your’re interested in Martin, I would recommend the D-28; it isn’t cheap, but they sure are nice if your’re interested in high end ones. Would love to get my hands on one of those. Around a year ago I looked into getting a Breedlove- I really like the shape of them but my guitar teacher said he had a student that had one and neither he nor the student liked the way it sounded. I don’t have any personal experience with Breedlove, just that my teacher did not recommend them. Good luck finding a new one….hope this helps! I play a les paul as my electric but I have my masters degree in guitar performance in classical guitar so my baby is a Thomas fredholm classical. The sky is the limit when it comes to guitars and what you want to spend (or allowed to if your married…). My father has a Martin d 35 and its an amazing acoustic. My brother plays a breedlove and its a nice one, but not in the realm of the d 35. I would come up with what you want to spend and go from there. -- Just trying to build something beautiful |

I have several vintage Martins….I collect them, and they range from 1946-1958….nothing over 1958….All D-28’s, except the ‘58 is a D-21…..I’ve been playing bluegrass for over 35 years, and in several bands…..You just can’t beat the sound of an old vintage Martin…..They’ve had time to age, and nothing, in my opinion, comes close to them…..!!! -- " At my age, happy hour is a crap and a nap"..... |

My forever guitar is a Santa Cruz OO Skye, which I bought 2 years ago as a special present to myself (with appropriate approvals). You won’t be sorry with anything by Santa Cruz. They are truly special, and greatly admired in the world of high-end steel string boutique-type guitars. Also consider Collings, which has a large following of enthusiasts, and a tremendous reputation for quality. The Collings are built extremely solid, and are heavier than the the Santa Cruz. I sold my Collings SJ to buy the Santa Cruz. The Collings had great sound but was too big for me. The much smaller SC had just as volume as the bigger guitar. These fine guitars do not come cheap, but you did say “forever.” PS, I als |

Kaleb- that’s a fine looking classical but I’d prefer a steel string for the style I want. Plus the $8000 is more than I want to spend. -- Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with all thy might |

Of course Santa Cruz makes guitars in all sizes…but they may be out of your price range, too. I paid about $5.5k for mine. My son has a Bourgeois guitar, which is a wonderful instrument. Froggy Bottom guitars are incredible but even more expensive. I suggest you internet shop at the Acoustic Guitar Forum, which will give you a good idea of what’s for sale at what price in the very-fine used guitar market place. Just scroll down to the classified adds section. If you post your question on their main forum you’ll get a lot of responses since its a very active site with a lot of very smart and experienced players. |
